Mental 健康 and Substance Use Disorder: How Are We Doing?

Mental (Behavioral) 健康 and Substance Use Disorder; How are We Doing?

I wrote about mental health last year and am writing about it again as it is something near and dear to my heart. I am a licensed therapist and although I have not practiced in many years, I fully realize the seriousness of these disorders and how much suffering mental health and substance use disorders can cause to one’s self, 一个的家庭, 一个人的雇主, 和更多的.  当我们慢慢听到更多正规澳门赌场app它的消息时, 这意味着意识在增强, we still have a great deal of opportunity for improvement.

在一些 研究 和报告, it is clear that nationally people are likely not receiving the treatment they need, and if they do it is costing them way more than any treatment for a medical condition. 根据 疾病预防控制中心 more than 50% of people will be diagnosed with a mental illness or disorder at some point in their lifetime; one in five Americans will experience a mental illness in a given year; one in five children, either currently or at some point during their life, have had a seriously debilitating mental illness; and 1 in 25 Americans lives with a serious mental illness, 比如精神分裂症, 双相情感障碍, 或者重度抑郁症.

博文 家庭基金会 engaged 立 to conduct research to assess limitations to treatment by assessing third party administrative claims. An initial 研究 was completed in 2017 and the most recent in 2019. 的 研究 looked at out of network rates for behavioral health and substance use compared to physical health interventions, 还有报销率. 的 研究 clearly showed disparity in out of network rates between physical and behavioral health/substance use, 以及报销率的差异. 的 greatest disparity occurred between substance use and physical health variables. 的 report also looked at children’s behavioral health and found even greater disparity for children receiving care. 的 report concluded that based on these findings, it would appear that compliance by employers and insurance carriers with the Mental 健康 Parity and Addiction Equality Act (MHPAEA) 没有发生.

In my last report on mental health I listed costs of mental health in the workplace. 我们知道, 如果不及时治疗, 心理健康不仅有经济成本, but a quality of life cost to all involved: employers, 员工, 家庭成员, 和朋友. And if we, 因为雇主, are not complying with MHPAEA, why? 我也想知道我们有多少, 因为雇主, know about the cost and quality of behavioral health or substance use care and treatment our 员工 are receiving. Do you receive any reports showing cost and quality? 如果是这样,我很想听听. This is one area that our upcoming project mentioned below will analyze.

的 Kansas Business Group on 健康 has received a 5 year project entitled 前进道路 that will focus on behavioral health and substance use treatment. 五个重点领域包括获得护理, 远程精神病学(心理健康), 精神健康平等, 这类基于结果的测量, 以及协作(综合)护理.
